King holding coronavirus poster as he has a crown like the covid-19 causing infection corona

In this blog post, I will go over what I learned from reading the book ā€œCovid-19: What you need to know about the Coronavirus and the race for the vaccineā€ by Dr Michael Mosley.Ā

This was a simple, easy-to-read book, and it helped improve my understanding of how the virus works. This allowed me to feel more comfortable about the virus because fear is caused by the unknown.Ā

So I will proceed to share the notes I took down.

Chapter 1 – Portrait of a serial killer

  • This form of Coronavirus is: SARS-CoV-2 – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2
  • The spikes of SARS-CoV-2 virus bind perfectly with the ACE2 enzymes that are on our cell membrane. Much like a key fits into a lock, the coronavirus has the perfect key for our cells. This allows it to come into our cells/system extremely quickly, and this is the danger of the virus.Ā
  • The virus is able to cut off communication from the cells to the immune system. These cells are responsible for alerting that there has been a foreign infiltrationĀ
  • One of the factors that define coronavirus is the speed in which it infects you and it’s contagiousness
  • Sars-Cov-1 was more fatal but it was slow to infect, so symptoms showed earlier and there was no pandemic. despite an outbreak. This current virus gets into your system undetected for three days, and in that time you could spread it (as you don’t show symptoms that warn you you’re sick)
  • A healthy immune system is critical to fighting off the virus, which explains why older people or people with pre-existing conditions are vulnerable.
  • Children barely pass on the virus.
  • Men are almost twice as likely to die from the virus.
  • BAME people are more likely to die from Covid-19.

Chapter 2 – How the virus escaped

  • In 2018, US scientists went to a Chinese lab and they reported back that the Chinese work on corona virus could cause a pandemic if it ever got leaked.
  • In January, an eye-scientist warned friends against the outbreak but was silenced by the authorities.
  • The mishandling of the case by authorities and organisations led to spreading of the virus.

Chapter 4 – Immune system

  • Obese people have a weaker immune system and are more vulnerable
  • Tactics to improve immunity:
    • Shrink waist
    • Intermittent fasting
    • Mediterranean diet
    • Improve sleep
    • Become active
    • Reduce stress

Chapter 5Ā

  • Origin of vaccine: The effect of smallpox was bad centuries ago, and a farmer called Benjamin Jetsy discovered that cowpox creates immunity for it. Then Dr Edward Jenner extended the test and then named the process vaccination after the word vacca (cow). At first, Jenner was ridiculed by his peers.
coronavirus lab leak theory hidden by fauci states that chinese wuhan lab created covid-19 infection virus and not a man eating the bat

Overall, it taught me that the immune system is very important and this is really important if you wish to stay safe.

However, our society places no importance or focus on improving the immune system. In fact, the lockdown actually makes your immune system worse.

    I highly recommend the book.
